Russia withdrew from the UN World Tourism Organization, about which a government decree was published in Moscow on Friday.
The UN General Assembly suspended Russia’s membership in the specialized organization at the end of April due to the war against Ukraine.
Moscow announced its withdrawal from the World Tourism Organization shortly before the suspension of its membership, explaining the reason for the “politicization” of the organization.
The World Tourism Organization, headquartered in Madrid, has over 150 members. The organization’s stated goal is to develop responsible, sustainable and globally accessible tourism. The organization also pays special attention to the interests of developing countries.
