According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces carried out several crackdowns on railway infrastructure in Kyiv at dawn for the first time since late April.
The mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, spoke on Telegram about “several explosions in the Darnytsia and Dniprovsky districts” in the southeast of the capital, without specifying which objects were attacked. Field correspondents told AFP that the army had created a safe corridor around the railway infrastructure, blocking access to it. They said that the glass facades of the ten-story building were completely broken, and around 9:00 am (06:00 Moscow time), fire brigades managed to extinguish the fire that broke out in it. According to preliminary information, there were no victims of the explosions, and the mayor of Kyiv said that one wounded man was taken to the hospital.
For his part, a member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrzaliznych, an adviser to the President of Ukraine, Serhiy Leshchenko, said that “blows were inflicted on the infrastructure” of the company. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian Tu-95 bombers stationed in the Caspian Sea detonated cruise missiles in the direction of Kyiv, one of which was destroyed.
For its part, the Ukrainian company Energoatum, which operates the country’s nuclear power plants, said the missile “flew at extremely low altitude over the Bivdino-Ukrainian nuclear power plant” in the Mykolaiv region (south), condemning “nuclear terrorism.”
The source added that “most likely, this rocket was fired towards Kyiv.” “The aggressor continues missile launches and airstrikes against the military and civilian infrastructure of our country, especially in Kyiv,” the Ukrainian military headquarters said on Facebook.
Russia turned its attention away from Kyiv in late March and early April, but returned and bombed the city on April 28 during a visit by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Then the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the fall of “five missiles” on Kyiv. And on Saturday night, sirens sounded warning of air strikes in several Ukrainian cities.
