Russia on Thursday sought to retaliate against Western sanctions imposed over son invasion of Ukraine banning exports of certain goods and agricultural products.
Telecom-medical, auto-agricultural, electrical and tech equipment, as well as certain forest products, will be prohibited until the end of 2022.
“These measures are a logical response to those imposed against Russia and aim to ensure uninterrupted operation of key sectors of the economy,” the economy said the ministry.
Other measures could include banning foreign ships from entering Russian ports and allowing Russian airlines to register jets leased from Western companies as their own. propertyla government noted.
Interfax news the agency quoted a source familiar with legislation being prepared providing that Russia could temporarily ban grain exports to a group of ex-soviet countries part of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) from March 15 to August 31, as well as sugar exports outside the UEE area.
Measures come after Western sanctions in reply to russia invasion of Ukraine which menace cripple Russia’s energy-dependent economy economy.
Western companies have pulled out of Russia en masse as the United States, European Union and Britain imposed sanctions aimed at curbing the access to financing.
In response, a government commission on Wednesday approved the first step towards nationalization assets of foreign companies leaving the country.
Proposal to restrict entry of foreign ships into Russian ports comes after Britain last week banned all vessels operated by Russia from its ports. The European Union has not yet brought clarity on perspective of a similar ban by the bloc.
