French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian warned on Monday that “all the elements” were in place for Russia to carry out a “great offensive” against Ukraine after Moscow massaged thousands of troops on its borders.
“Are there all the elements for an important offensive by Russian forces in Ukraine? Yes there is. It’s possible possible quickly,” Le Drian told France 5 television, adding that there was no suggestion that Moscow had yet taken a decision.
The EU – alongside other Western allies – has pledged to impose massive sanctions on Moscow if it organizes a new incursion into Ukraine.
The United States has warned that a Russian invasion of Ukraine may be imminent and their Western allies have threatened paralysis package of economic sanctions in responnse.
