Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, stressed that “technical procedures for the Nord Stream gas pipeline cannot be completed due to anti-Russian sanctions.”
In an interview with Radio Times on Sunday, Polyansky said that the completion of the necessary technical measures for the Nord Stream gas pipeline is impossible due to anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Europe and the UK, which is why European countries are currently experiencing an energy crisis. .
In response to the question of why Russia is cutting off gas supplies to Europe, which puts additional pressure on the unprotected population of Europe and the UK. “The idea of imposing sanctions against Russia did not come from us, so we must first ask these reckless European politicians, including the British, who do not put the interests of their people in anything,” Polyansky replied.
“Russia has been and remains a reliable supplier of gas to Europe,” he added in statements broadcast by the Russian channel RT Arabia.
Since July 27, Nord Stream, which supplies gas from Russia to Europe, has been used at about 20% of its maximum capacity due to the shutdown of two gas turbines. One of them (manufactured in Canada by Siemens Energy) was sent to Montreal for repairs. But due to the sanctions imposed by Ottawa against Moscow, the manufacturer initially refused to return the repaired equipment to Germany, but at the insistence of the German side decided to return the turbine.
On July 25, Gazprom announced the forced shutdown of another gas turbine engine due to scheduled maintenance, leaving only one turbine in operation.
