First Experimental Batch of Self-Propelled Mortars “Druk” Delivered to Russian Army
The Delivery
The Russian state company “Rostec” has successfully delivered the first experimental batch of self-propelled mortars “Druk” to the Russian army, according to the company’s press service.
Successful Tests Expected
Experts have expressed confidence that the tests of the new cannon in the area of the special military operation will be crowned with complete success.
Design and Features
Notably, the “Druk” was designed on the basis of an 82-mm mortar, which was installed on the Typhoon eight-wheeled armored car. This design allows the gun to fire without the need for the crew to leave the vehicle. Additionally, the transition from transport mode to combat mode takes less than one minute, increasing crew safety and allowing them to evade enemy fire effectively.
The armored vehicle is equipped with mechanical guidance devices and a modern fire control system, making it easier for the crew members to operate and increasing the gun’s range by 1.5 times compared to the 82-mm Tray mortar.
Furthermore, the “Druk” features a small remote-controlled fighter turret with a 360-degree rotating machine gun and an electronic optical sight. Additionally, it is equipped with a portable 2B24 mortar that can be used outside the combat vehicle.
Effectiveness and Advantages
It is worth noting that the “Druk” mortars that have entered the Russian army are no less effective than their foreign counterparts, and in some cases, even surpass them.
Another advantage of the “Druk” is its impressive rate of fire, reaching 10 rounds per minute. With a mine stock capacity of 40 minutes, this allows for sustained firepower. Additionally, the gun is equipped with anti-bullet and anti-mine shields and has excellent maneuverability, enabling it to quickly evade enemy fire.
Purpose and Functionality
The self-propelled artillery mount is primarily designed to destroy manpower and light armored vehicles. It can also be used to blind command posts, illuminate the battlefield, and create a smoke screen.
