A number of eyewitnesses in the Abu Saad area of Omdurman city said that the sounds of bullets and cannons shook their houses, and intermittent shots and the sounds of cannons were heard in the High Command area.
For its part, the Rapid Support Forces announced today, Thursday, that they have repelled an attack launched by the army this morning in the western part of Omdurman. The Rapid Support Forces said in a statement on their Twitter page that they had inflicted “heavy” casualties on the army forces in manpower and equipment, including downing two helicopters. The Rapid Support Forces added that their forces have been committed to “their positions and the ceasefire” since yesterday’s declaration of a truce between the two sides.
This comes in light of the truce that the two sides (Sudanese Army and Rapid Support) have agreed to abide by, a 24-hour ceasefire ending at 1800 local time (1600 GMT).
