Although the coast of Kozlu district of Zonguldak is overwhelmed with waste, some people sat down for enjoy a picnic in the middle of the environmental catastrophe, ignoring the medical and household waste that the sea had vomited up back.
Those who flocked to the beach in Zonguldak over the weekend were met with pious of garbage in Kozlu district.
Domestic and medical waste, which is spreading over a area of about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles), surprised the citizens. While some people returned, expressing his anger at the authorities for no cleaning up the area others have chosen enjoy a lit picnic up their barbecues.
Ilker Kaplan, a resident, said he wanted for spend the weekend on the beach with his wife and son child. “You can see the mess. The nature vomited the dirt that people thrown in nature all winter,” Kaplan said, noting that they would be very happy if the beach was cleaned up.
“This place was once a dump. They probably threw away the medical waste of our hospital here. The sea threw it up back out,” he added.
‘I was surprised by these picnics in garbage’
Binnaz Tasci, who came to Zonguldak from Izmir to visit, said she was very surprised to see one of the most beautiful beaches of the city surrounded by garbage.
Saying she couldn’t understand how people had picnics surrounded by garbage, Taşçı said, “It’s very bad for people for walk about in Dirtiness. It is a deplorable situation. It’s really cruel to turn this beautiful nature in this, people are really cruel. I am in awe right now.”
“I have seen many of syringes. There’s plastic waste,” she said. added.
Declaring that the authorities should take care of emergency of this pollution, Taşçı said, “This place must be cleaned as soon like possible. I do not understand how people eat and drink here. Are the people who live and come here accustomed? Is it just like this? What can be done? It doesn’t seem very difficult, actually. It would be very nice if all the waste was eliminated.”
“Shame on us for destroying beautiful nature is a sin,” Taşçı said, adding that beauty is wasted at cause garbage.
Garbage comes from a area located by the sea in the district of Kozlu which served as a dump for many years.
His use car landfills were closed after installation in Sapça has become operational. However, the garbage in the enormous area was dragged into the Black Sea to be swept away by high waves in the winter season. The waves carried trash such as plastic, glass, bottles, syringes, serum, including medical waste, down to the beach on the coast of Kozlu. As a result the beach was almost completely covered with pile of garbage.
Although residents have informed local governments of the situation, no work started again for cleaning of waste.
