In an interview with CNN, Queen Rania, wife of Jordan’s King Abdullah II, explained the importance of the British royal family to the Hashemite royal family, noting that the relationship between the two sides “goes back several decades and spans several generations.”
“His Majesty King Hussein and Her Majesty (Queen Elizabeth) ascended the throne in 1952 and lived through nearly 50 years of companionship that marked their shared experience of royalty,” said Queen Rania. She added: “My husband, King Abdullah, inherited this relationship and cherished it. He was also very proud of Her Majesty (Queen Elizabeth), as I am, it is impossible not to, and we have a very close relationship with His Majesty. (King Charles) and Queen Consort Camilla, and now my son. He is very close to Prince William. So it’s a relationship that spans generations and we really stick with it because it’s based on shared values.”
Regarding the development of relations in the future, Queen Rania noted that “Her Majesty (Elizabeth) has always been guided by principles and she was ready to change and modify policy at her discretion. So I think people understand that the position of the monarchy today is very different from what it was in the past. Facing problems. Each era has its own circumstances. Moving forward, as I said, His Majesty (Charles) deeply understands our region and deeply respects it.”
In conclusion, Queen Rania commented on the beginning of a new era in the world, emphasizing that King Charles is “a very wise man”, adding: “I have no doubt about his ability to strengthen relations not only with our part of the world.” but with all parts of the world.
