Improved Streaming Offer Coming to PlayStation Plus
PlayStation is planning to enhance its PS Plus streaming service, as announced in June. Premium subscribers will soon have the ability to stream any PS5 game, including titles from the Extra-Premium catalog, trial versions, and any next-gen game in their library. This is a significant step forward for PlayStation users. Currently, if you launch Remote Play on a game labeled as PS4 | PS5, you only see the old generation version. To enjoy the next-gen experience, you must download the game.
4K Streaming on PS5
However, this limitation will soon be a thing of the past. A select group of lucky “Premium” subscribers have been invited to try the new streaming features in advance this week. These beta testers can now access a dozen PS5 titles, including God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Returnal, and Demon’s Souls, through cloud streaming. The cherry on top is that PS5 game streaming supports 4K resolution, which sets PlayStation apart from its competitors. Unlike Xbox and its xCloud, which is limited to a maximum resolution of 1080p | 60 fps, PlayStation’s new streaming feature offers a standout experience. Microsoft has been leveraging the power of remote servers to enhance certain games, but they have not implemented 4K streaming capabilities.
Testimonials from beta testers speak highly of the streaming quality. For example, ArashiGames on Remain tried Ragnarok in 2160p, and there were no issues so far. The beta allows users to choose from four resolutions (720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p) and import PS4 saves from the cloud. Unfortunately, no release date has been announced for the official launch of this update.
