Brazilian football star Pelé has confirmed that he now feels strong and hopeful after a wave of anxiety in response to unconfirmed reports of his transfer to intensive care in recent days. “I want everyone to be calm and positive,” Pele wrote on his Instagram account, sharing the latest medical report from the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, which says his condition is still stable.
“I am continuing treatment as usual.” Pelé, 82, who helped Brazil win three World Cups, ended his message by inviting fans to watch the Selecao play at this year’s tournament.
Today, Monday, in Doha, Brazil will play with South Korea.
Earlier, the hospital said Pele is still in stable condition after being hospitalized this week while battling colon cancer.
Medical staff said he responded well to treatment for a respiratory infection and his condition had not worsened in the last 24 hours, and he was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday to have his cancer treatment re-evaluated.
Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported last Saturday that Pelé was in intensive care after he stopped responding to chemotherapy for cancer.
