Olivia Rodrigo Gets Bloody in Music Video for “Vampire”
Introduction
Olivia Rodrigo gets bloody as she calls out a “fame fucker” in the music video for her new song, “Vampire.”
About the Song and Music Video
The first single from her forthcoming sophomore album “Guts,” due Sept. 8, “Vampire” begins as a piano ballad with Rodrigo singing in an ethereal field of flowers. As the song ramps up to the chorus, Rodrigo’s vocals increase in power, singing: “Bloodsucker, fame fucker/ Bleeding me dry like a goddamn vampire.”
The Petra Collins-directed music video then sees Rodrigo get hit in the head by a falling light, as it’s revealed that she is actually performing on stage at an awards show. Suffering from injuries, Rodrigo continues to sing as a driving beat kicks in, until she is chased off stage by security and into the night.
Anticipation and Release
“Vampire” had been highly anticipated since Rodrigo had not debuted any original music since her 2021 album “Sour.” Her sophomore album, “Guts,” is due Sept. 8 via Geffen Records.
In preparation for the release of the single, Rodrigo’s website homepage had a running timer counting down to June 30. She also previously teased snippets of the moody track in her Instagram stories.
The Growth and Depth of “Guts”
Nigro joins the forthcoming “Guts” as a producer, a project that is set to tackle the “growing pains” Rodrigo has experienced since launching into megastardom with her breakout track “drivers license.” Noticeably, the cover art for both of Rodrigo’s albums sports images of the artist on purple backdrops, with the “Guts’” cover shifting to a deeper shade, serving as a potential easter egg into the growth and depth of her music to come.
Olivia Rodrigo’s Personal Growth
In an official statement about “Guts,” Rodrigo said “I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 — it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully the album reflects that.”
