Yesterday morning, four Palestinians were shot dead by the Israeli army during a military operation to arrest “activists” in the Jenin camp in the West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health confirmed that “Abdul Fathi Hazem, Muhammad Mahmoud Al-Vaneh and Ahmed Nazmi Alawnah are martyrs of Israeli aggression” in Jenin.
A later updated list announced the death of a fourth person, “Muhammad Abu Naas”.
According to the agency, 44 injuries were recorded, including “severe and very severe.”
For its part, the army announced that its soldiers had shot and killed “two suspects involved in a number of recent shootings.”
“In the house where the two suspects are, an explosive device went off, and the suspects opened fire in the direction of the security forces,” the report says.
Early in the morning, the Israeli army began a military operation that involved a large number of its forces, targeting mainly the home of the Hazem family, who is accused of carrying out a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv last April.
Deputy Governor of Jenin Kamal Abu al-Rub said: “The occupying forces continue to attack the city of Jenin and its camp, and today they attacked the camp in large numbers and fired a rocket at the house of the Hazem family. ”
According to Abu ar-Ruba, “this campaign is the most brutal ever carried out by the occupying army”, and this, in his opinion, “will increase the pace of resistance”.
Abu al-Rub believes that “Israel is engaged in such hostilities as the elections approach.”
Israel is organizing its fifth legislative election in three and a half years on November 1, after parliament was dissolved on June 30.
