Tottenham Hotspur newcomer Brazilian striker Richarlison will miss his side’s first domestic league game after being stopped for throwing firecrackers after scoring a goal while defending the colors of his former side Everton last season.
Richarlison joined Tottenham last week on a £60m ($71m) deal, but the Brazilian has to wait for his first game in the team’s new jersey.
The 25-year-old striker scored Everton’s goal in their 1-0 win over Chelsea on 1 May by throwing a torch he had raised onto the pitch towards the Goodison Park stands.
Everton’s victory was seen as an important step in their successful fight to avoid relegation.
Richarlison, who has a five-year deal with Tottenham, admitted his inappropriate behavior after being accused by the local football association on June 1, but on Tuesday the latter decided to give him a one-match ban and a £25,000 fine.
“Richardison de Andrade has been suspended for one match by the independent organizing committee and fined £25,000 after he violated FA rules during a Premier League match on Sunday 1 May 2022,” the FA said in a statement.
“The Tottenham Hotspur striker admitted that his behavior during the game for Everton in the 46th minute against Chelsea was inappropriate and he was fined at a subsequent hearing.”
