After the hit the comedy series which starred Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy turned into a global sensation with the international to concentrate on the actor who became president, online streaming giant Netflix has become the latest diffuser to add he has son show slate.
“You asked and it is back“, wrote Netflix on Wednesday, announcing the return of the satirist 2015 show “Servant of the people”, who met featured Zelenskyy as a teacher who unexpectedly becomes president after becoming famous on Youtube.
Zelenskyy, whose character is elected president after a clip in whose corruption he complains is going viral, was himself elected President in real life after the show was widely watched across Ukraine.
As Netflix launches the show for American viewers, in Europe, the Franco-German broadcaster Arte says it has registered a growing interest in the TV shows.
“Due to the high level of public interest in the person of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Arte has decided to buy the series in autumn 2021,” the broadcaster told Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA). “The current developments in Ukraine have greatly increased this interest.”
In the UK, broadcaster Channel 4 broke up the series and streamed it online to viewers. Distributor Eccho Rights has also sold the show at MBC in the Middle East, ANT 1 in Greece, and PRO TV in Romania, according to the entertainment industry news website Deadline.
