Better late than never?
Mission Impossible is a popular film franchise with Tom Cruise as its main star since the 90s. In 2023, the seventh film in the series, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1, was released, hinting at a part 2 scheduled for June 28, 2024. However, only 40% of the sequel had been filmed due to the writers’ strike.
The strike has had significant consequences on the entire entertainment industry. Despite its end on September 27, production has been greatly affected. As a result, Dead Reckoning Part 2 has been postponed and will now premiere a year later on May 23, 2025.
A name change also on the agenda?
Due to the extended timeline, the production has decided to make a significant change: the film will have a new name. There might even be a new approach to the script, as confirmed by director Christopher McQuarrie.
It remains to be seen what plot twists will be introduced and whether this eighth film will truly be the last in the franchise.
In addition to these changes, Paramount has also delayed the prequel to the film Without a Sound, called Sans un Noise: Day One, which will now release on June 28, 2024 instead of March 8, 2024. On the other hand, the film IF by John Krasinki has been moved forward from May 24, 2024, to May 17, 2024.
Furthermore, Disney has completely rearranged its schedule, delaying multiple Avatar, Star Wars, and Marvel projects, including the Avengers.
