His Excellency Minister of Education Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sheikh visited Columbia University’s Center for Technology and School Transformation and met with Center Founder and Director Dr. Alan Mayer and Center Research Director Karen Menow on the sidelines of the Education Transformation Summit in New York, USA.
During the meeting with the leaders of the center, the Minister of Education discussed ways to expand the existing cooperation between the Kingdom and the United States in the educational and scientific fields, as well as support aspects of cooperation in the field of scholarships, with the number of Saudi students receiving scholarships in the United States reaching 20,954 people, since The United States is among the target countries under the new strategy of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program launched by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown. The meeting discussed mechanisms for training Saudi teachers at the university, the possibility of increasing the number of Saudi students on scholarships accepted for study at the university and providing them with possible conditions, as well as reviewing the Kingdom’s experience in e-learning and distance education during the pandemic, as well as developing educational programs.
The agenda of the meeting included defining the vision of Columbia University and the College of Education regarding strategies for teacher training programs and research, as well as plans for teacher and teacher training and development of their skills in the Kingdom, as well as discussing the possibility of a partnership between the Ministry of Education and the Columbia Center for Technology and School Change.
