After an update to the software was made today and published on the App Store, Microsoft Authenticator is no longer available on the Apple Watch.
The release notes state that it “removes Microsoft Authenticator from Apple Watch.” According to Microsoft, you can still use the Apple Watch’s notification settings to duplicate iPhone notifications from the app to your wrist-worn device.
2018 saw the addition of an Apple Watch companion app for the Microsoft Authenticator for iOS, primarily used for authenticating into Microsoft accounts with two-step verification enabled. According to a statement from Microsoft, the Apple Watch app will be withdrawn in early 2023.
The Microsoft Authenticator app for Apple Watch joins a list of watchOS apps from third parties that have been removed in recent years due to perceived redundancy or low user adoption. Twitter, Instagram, Target, Trello, Slack, Hulu, and Uber are a few other popular Apple Watch apps that have issues.
