SAN SEBASTIAN: MediaInvest Makes First Deals with Logical Content Ventures and The Archers
Equity Agreement with Logical Content Ventures
MediaInvest, a new E.U. equity tool managed by the European Investment Fund, has made its first deals by entering into an equity agreement with France’s Logical Content Ventures, part of Logical Pictures. The agreement is worth €68.25 million ($72.35 million) and is expected to leverage around €500 million ($530 million) of new financing for audiovisual and creative companies and projects.
Debt Financing Agreements with Cersa, Crea, and The Archers
In addition to the equity agreement with Logical Content Ventures, MediaInvest has also entered into three debt financing agreements. The agreements are with Spain’s Cersa and Crea, as well as Luxembourg-based The Archers. The total worth of these agreements is €68.25 million ($72.35 million).
Addressing the Lack of Access to Finance
MediaInvest aims to address the lack of access to finance for audiovisual companies in Europe. Renate Nikolay, European Commission Deputy Director-General for DG CNECT, stated that this initiative will strengthen the financial capacities of European companies, enable them to get better value for their intellectual property, and boost their growth and international exposure.
Boosting Investment in the Audiovisual Sector
MediaInvest, launched in Cannes last year, has the ultimate goal of boosting investment in the audiovisual sector and encouraging the creation of audiovisual equity funds. This initiative is part of the European Commission’s efforts to support the growth and development of the industry.
E.U. Moneys Attracting Private-Sector Investment
The European Investment Fund conducts thorough due diligence on companies receiving E.U. funding. The funding provided by MediaInvest can have a cascade effect by attracting investment from private-sector third parties. This provides additional financial support for the audiovisual industry.
Investment in Logical Content Ventures
The European Investment Fund has approved an investment of up to €25 million ($26.5 million) in Logical Content Ventures. Logical Content Ventures aims to raise up to €70 million ($74.2 million) in equity investment to support European audiovisual production and distribution companies. The company focuses on movies, TV series, and impact content related to women’s empowerment, diversity, and human rights.
Investment in The Archers
The EIF has also signed with MDDG, a Luxembourg-based fund acting as a general partner of its investment vehicles The Archers and The Archers Production. The Archers is open for European independent producers and European sales companies to submit projects that need financing. The fund assesses projects’ international potential and is looking for projects with a clear international vision and the potential to go global.
Conclusion
MediaInvest’s first deals with Logical Content Ventures and The Archers mark a significant step in boosting investment and providing financial support to the audiovisual industry in Europe. These agreements are expected to leverage substantial financing for audiovisual and creative companies, encouraging growth and international exposure. With MediaInvest’s focus on addressing the lack of access to finance, European companies in the audiovisual sector can now benefit from enhanced financial capacities and better value for their intellectual property.
