International Handball Federation President Dr. Hassan Mustafa and Federation President of Saudi Arabia Fadel bin Ali Al-Nimr crowned Germany’s team from Magdeburg with the title of the 2022 FIFA Club Handball World Cup Super Globe (15), for the second time in their history, after winning over their Spanish rivals Barcelona in 39-41 overtime in the 12-club Championship hosted by the Kingdom between 18 and 23 October for the third time in a row at the Ministry of Sports Hall in Dammam.
The match ended in a draw 35-35 in the original time, and in additional games the Magdeburg team managed to move forward with the result, achieve victory and win the title.
As a result of the meeting, the captain of the Magdeburg team received the championship cup and gold medals, while the Barcelona team won silver medals, and the Kielce team won bronze medals and third place, beating the Egyptian team Al-Ahly. 26-35 for fourth place.
On the final day, several positions were played with 12-5 and the Saudi Arabian Gulf team finished in sixth place after losing 30-31 to Tunisian Esperance in the final seconds to finish the Tunisian team in fifth place. .
The Portuguese team Benfica managed to defeat their rival Brazilian side Taupati 27–32 to finish in seventh place, while the Brazilian team finished in eighth place.
Team Mudhar finished tenth after losing 19-34 to Kuwait who finished ninth, the Australian team from Sydney beat the Mexican team Minestros 29-33 to finish in eleventh place and the Minestros finished twelfth and last.
For his part, the President of the International Federation expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom represented by the Ministry of Sports, the Saudi Arabian Handball Federation and all participating committees for the success in organizing the World Cup, emphasizing that the number of spectators in this tournament was the largest among all other tournaments, adding that the tournament develops from year to year, and the organization in the Kingdom develops further, which is an indicator that proves the Kingdom’s ability to host the world Olympiad in the future.
The President of the Saudi Arabian Handball Federation thanked the wise leadership for the generous and unrestricted support given to sport and athletes in the Kingdom to achieve the vision of the Kingdom until 2030, as well as for the continuation of the actions of His Highness the Minister of Sports, expressing gratitude to all the staff of the tournament for their effective contribution to its success.
