Sega’s Yakuza Spin-off: Like a Dragon Gaiden
Sega’s upcoming spin-off game, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, is set to bring back the popular character Kazuma Kiryu, also known as the Dragon of Dojima. This new adventure takes place between the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and the upcoming game, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
The game is set in 2019, three years after the events of Yakuza 6, and separate from the storyline of Yakuza: Like a Dragon which occurs in the same year. In Like a Dragon Gaiden, players take on the role of Kazuma Kiryu, who has been left for dead and is living in hiding for two years in a temple owned by the Daidoji faction. Kiryu undertakes missions for the faction but, in order to protect his family, he must forsake his past and even his own name. He is now only known by the code name, Joryu.
New Trailer with Exciting Features
A newly released trailer from developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio showcases exciting features that players can expect in Like a Dragon Gaiden. The gameplay will revisit the style of the earlier games, departing from the turn-based combat of its predecessor. The main city featured in the game will be Sottenbori in Osaka, but our protagonist will also need to travel to Isezaki Ijincho in Yokohama.
With the release of the trailer, we catch a glimpse of some new additions, including live-action hostesses in the cabaret areas of the game. Kiryu has the opportunity to interact with real-life models dressed in revealing outfits. These new features make Like a Dragon Gaiden one of the more mature entries in the series. The trailer also introduces Kiryu’s two fighting styles: the “Agent” style featuring gadgets, and the bare-handed “Yakuza” style. In addition to combat, players can engage in various activities such as darts, golf, pool, car racing, and even revisit classic Sega games to pass the time between battles.
An Attractive Bonus for Fans
One of the most enticing aspects of this game for fans of the Yakuza series is the inclusion of a demo for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon. This demo, referred to as a “special trial version,” will offer scenes not found in the main game. Infinite Wealth will feature ex-yakuza Kasuga Ichiban alongside Kazuma Kiryu in an adventure that appears to extend beyond Japan. The release date for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is set for November 8 and will be available on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
