French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian announced that if this happens, the European Union will not leave the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus unanswered.
In an interview with the Journal du Dimanche on Sunday, the minister, hours before an anticipated phone call between the French and Russian presidents, said: “(Russia) President Vladimir Putin to (France) President (Emmanuel) Macron, nuclear weapons are not being considered in Belarus. ” In it, Russian forces will not be in Belarus after the end of joint exercises between the two countries.”
And Jean-Yves Le Drian added: “I hope then we can say: It has already happened. Otherwise it would be a big change for European security that cannot go unanswered.”
