Jordanian Army Shoots Down Drone Loaded with Drugs
The Jordanian army has reported that its border guard forces shot down a drone from Syria that was attempting to cross the Jordanian border while loaded with drugs. The information was released by an official military source in the Armed Forces General Command.
Border Guard Forces and Security Services Collaborate
The border guard forces worked in collaboration with the military security services and the Department for Control of drug trafficking to monitor the drone’s movements. The drone had illegally crossed from Syrian territory into Jordanian territory, where it was then shot down. After the drone was shot down, it was discovered that it was carrying 500 grams of narcotic crystals. The items were immediately transferred to the competent authorities.
Jordan Continues to Fight Threats to Its Security
The official military source emphasized that the Jordanian armed forces will continue to fight against any threat on the border fronts and any efforts aimed at undermining and destabilizing the security of the homeland and intimidating its citizens.
Previous Incidents
This is not the first time that the Jordanian army has shot down a drone. On February 25, a drone carrying hand grenades and a rifle was also shot down while flying from Syria.
King Abdullah II’s Promise
King Abdullah II of Jordan has promised to strike local and regional drug gangs with an “iron fist” on May 22. The gangs pose a threat to the kingdom’s national and regional security. The Kingdom of Jordan confirms that 85% of the drugs seized are intended to be smuggled out of Jordan, especially into Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states.
