Introduction

Italy beat the host nation 3-2 in a match that brought them together at the De Grulch West stadium today, Sunday, to determine the third-place finisher in the 2022-2023 European Nations League season.

Match Details

The Italian national team opened the scoring already in the sixth minute thanks to left-back Federico Dimarco and doubled David Frazzi’s score by the 20th minute.

And the Netherlands managed to score a goal to close the gap in the 68th minute thanks to substitute Steven Bergwijn, but Italian winger Federico Chiesa restored the gap to two goals with his country’s third in the 72nd minute.

And when the match was on its last legs, Georginio Wijnaldum scored the second goal for the Netherlands in the 89th minute.

Outcome

With this victory, Italy achieved third place and a bronze medal in the European Nations League.
