An explosion occurred at an industrial facility in Los Angeles on Thursday, injuring five people and closing schools near the site.
The accident occurred on Third Avenue in Montclair, downtown Los Angeles.
A fire department official told reporters that some injuries were caused by burns and shrapnel.

Noting that 4 people were taken to the hospital and one person was treated at the accident site, he noted that “the fire that broke out as a result of the explosion was extinguished”.
The fire department said the facility resembles a metal recycling site.
Ontario-Montclair School District confirmed that the blast did not affect schools.
