Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa Discuss African Peace Initiative on Ukraine Conflict
The Indian Foreign Ministry said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa discussed the African Peace Initiative on the conflict in Ukraine by phone.
Details of the Conversation
The ministry said in a statement: “South African President Ramaphosa briefed the Indian Prime Minister on the peace initiative of African leaders. He noted that India supports all initiatives aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in Ukraine. The Prime Minister reaffirmed India\’s continued call for dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward.\”
During the telephone conversation, Modi and Ramaphosa exchanged views on a number of regional and global issues, including BRICS cooperation in the context of the South African Presidency in 2023.
Upcoming Visit to Moscow and Kyiv
Earlier, Director General of the South African Foreign Ministry Zain Dangor said that Ramaphosa and the leaders of five other African countries would visit Moscow and Kyiv in early June as part of a peace initiative.
