The news has reported that German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to leave Manchester City this summer.
And Britain’s Daily Mail reported Monday night that Gündoğan, 31, is free to look for another team this summer, knowing his contract with Manchester City runs until 2023, but an extension is unlikely for him.
Gundogan joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 and is close to climbing the league podium for the fourth time as Manchester City close to winning the English Premier League this season. Gundogan has started in 20 of 37 games for Manchester City this season.
While Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that his team is not ignoring Kylian Mbappé’s potential, he will not be joining the fight for the Paris Saint-Germain striker. The French striker has continued to feature with Paris Saint-Germain this season despite Real Madrid’s interest in his inclusion and has shown his best level yet, scoring 36 goals in 45 games across all competitions.
The 23-year-old World Cup winner’s contract expires in June amid speculation about his future in recent weeks, with Klopp not talking about any contact between the player and Liverpool. “Of course we are interested in Kylian,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League game against Southampton. We are not blind, I have nothing to say about the reports of Killian and Liverpool linking.. everything is fine.
Klopp’s comments come as Liverpool are trying to negotiate a contract extension for top scorer Mohamed Salah, while reports say striker Sadio Mane has received several offers to leave. “Of course we love Mbappe, if you don’t like him you have to doubt yourself, but we can’t participate in this fight,” Klopp said. Other clubs should be involved and that’s okay. He is an excellent player. If Liverpool win on Tuesday, they will be one point behind leaders Manchester City ahead of the final round matches.
On the other hand, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was very disappointed after losing 2-0 to Newcastle United in the English Premier League on Monday night, as he said the performance was not close to the level needed to qualify for the Champions League.
Arsenal defender Ben White scored an own goal and Bruno Guimarães added a second goal for Newcastle, leaving the underdog two points behind fourth-placed rivals Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the final round. Arteta told Sky Sports: “It’s a shame that Newcastle were 10 times better than us and the performance wasn’t close to the level we need if we want to play in the Champions League, it hurts.” It used to be in our hands, but it’s no longer the case.
The Spanish manager had a rocky start to the season before leading Arsenal to Champions League qualification, but he said he was responsible for any setbacks on the pitch. And Arteta told reporters when asked about his disappointment with his players: “I am always responsible, if someone made an exception this year in a way that no one expected at the beginning of the season, then it is this line-up and I will protect them all the time, but today it was really difficult.” Given goal difference, Arsenal need a win over Everton on Sunday, as well as a relegated second division Norwich City win over Tottenham Hotspur to finish in fourth place.
