Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola said winning the English Premier League would make the manager happier than winning the Champions League as the Spanish coach sought to make up for his European disappointment by winning the English title for the fourth time.
City are one point ahead of rivals Liverpool ahead of the final round of the season on Sunday, and Guardiola has a chance to win the title at home for the first time as he greets Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola said he was not detracting from the Champions League title by admitting he really wanted to play in the final in Paris, but added that winning the title in 38 games would be a treat for any manager, but it’s harder.
Guardiola added on Friday: “The tournament consists of many rounds. We have gone through many matches with injuries, good and bad moments and different situations. We couldn’t stop Liverpool in 2019/20 and my team wasn’t good enough. But in other years we did well. When you’re fighting for the Premier League, you have fun in the dressing room. We become happier from consistent victories. This creates good conditions for learning. It’s not just one game like the FA Cup, it’s a competition every day and it’s a great feeling.
Guardiola has confirmed that his team will treat Sunday’s game like any regular Premier League match as they look to maintain their unblemished win record against Aston Villa.
