The International Federation of Football Associations announced on Tuesday the new 2025 Club World Cup, which will feature 32 teams for the first time, making the next edition the last in the old system.
The new edition of the Club World Cup will take place in June 2025 with 32 clubs from all continents of the world, 12 clubs from Europe, 6 from South America, 4 clubs from Africa, 4 from Asia, 4 from North America. and one club from Oceania, as well as another representing the host country.
And FIFA, through an official statement, confirmed that the qualification system for the Club World Cup will be based on continents with more than 4 places (Europe and South America), from which the champion of the Champions League will grow. four editions from 2021 to 2024, as well as additional teams. This is determined by the classification of the club for the same period, according to the confederation.
With regard to the continents from which the 4 clubs qualify, such as Africa and Asia, the Champions League champion rises in the last four editions of the Champions League 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 to ensure Moroccan teams Al Ahly and Wydad reach the final of the club world championship in their modern system.
Saudi club Al Hilal also secured their participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup by winning the AFC Champions League title in 2021 and participating in the most recent Club World Cup where they won the silver medal.
FIFA has confirmed that the continents from which one team qualifies, such as Oceania, are selected by club classification for a four-year period from 2021 to 2024.
Regarding the host country representative, FIFA has indicated that the host club’s qualification criteria for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be set at a later stage.
The Club World Cup 2025 is attended by Al-Ahly from Egypt, Vidad from Morocco, Real Madrid from Spain, Chelsea from England, Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia and Flamengo from Brazil.
