The Production of Bustin’ Ghosts Delayed Due to Union Strikes
The production of Bustin’ Ghosts will have to be delayed until the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have secured equitable compensation. In the wake of the two separate Hollywood union strikes, Sony has stated that it will delay the release of many films on its production slate. One of these films is the planned sequel to Ghostbusters starring Paul Rudd called Afterlife. The legacy sequel that was so popular in 2021 will now get its own follow-up game on Easter Sunday, March 29, 2024, rather than the Christmas Day release originally planned for this year.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife – The Highly Anticipated Sequel
The next Ghostbusters movie will have many details kept secret, including the film’s title. It has, however, been continually addressed under the name “Firehouse,” which refers to the renowned headquarters of the ghost-hunting squad and hints that it will play a significant position in the sequel as it returns to New York City. Aside from that, the movie will be a direct follow-up to Afterlife, continuing the story of the same cast of characters as they continue to hunt ghosts as the first crew did. The director of the first movie, Jason Reitman, has dropped hints that several of the first movie’s characters may appear in the second movie, notably Vigo the Carpathian.
Production of Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Production on the Ghostbusters sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife got underway in March of this year, with Gil Kenan taking over the director’s chair from Ivan Reitman, who is now focusing only on his role as a producer. Rudd will be joined by McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhardt, and Carrie Coon as they all reprise their roles from the original cast of Afterlife. With the likes of Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind on board for the sequel, some exciting new additions will also be brought to life in the film.
Returning to the Franchise’s Beginnings
The Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel is heading back to the franchise’s beginnings, judging by everything from the working title to the places where it would be filmed. Although this has not been confirmed, it is quite likely that the stars of the original films, such as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Annie Potts, will be making an appearance in some form alongside Ernie Hudson, who was featured in a brief moment after the credits rolled in Afterlife. Sigourney Weaver is one of the actresses who has already stated that she will not participate. She disclosed that she was not asked to return for the role.
Release Date
On March 29, the new Ghostbusters movie will be released in theaters worldwide.
