German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Saturday that son country worked with international partners to establish an air bridge for Ukrainian refugees in Moldova.
After a meeting with son Moldovan counterpart Nicu Popescu in Chisinau, Baerbock said the German government would bring 2,500 Ukrainian refugees from Moldova directly in Germany as first step.
A “green corridor” with the buses that travel via Romania was among the initiatives, she said, as well as flights directly from Chisinau or via next to countries.
The European Union provided emergency aid of 5 millions euros (5.5 millions of dollars) for Moldova and Germany government provided 3 millions additional euros, said Baerbock.
According to Popescu, Moldova had taken in a total of about 300,000 people from Ukraine, of who more more than 100,000 were still in the country. Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe.
