Der Spiegel magazine reported that Germany intends to send another large batch of military equipment to Ukraine, estimated at 2.7 billion euros, the delivery will take place “in the coming weeks and months.” It is planned to send an additional 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 30 Leopard 1 tanks, 200 unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, logistics vehicles, IRIS-T air defense systems, as well as ammunition to Kiev.
The magazine expects the new aid package to be announced on Sunday, in parallel with the presentation of the Charlemagne Prize by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Aachen. Where he is likely to arrive in Germany, on the other hand, the visit is not officially reported.
In the first quarter of 2023, the German government approved the supply of military goods to Ukraine for a total amount of about 497 million euros. On January 25, the German Cabinet of Ministers confirmed that it would send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and issue permission to other countries to re-export these vehicles. In February, the German Cabinet of Ministers approved the supply of 178 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Kyiv, and also decided to provide Kyiv with four more pieces of equipment from the stocks of the German armed forces.
