France’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Nicolas de Riviere, threatened Russia with dire consequences if it did not stop recognizing the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, and declared his country’s solidarity with Ukraine.

On Monday evening, Russian President signed two decrees requiring Russia to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics from Ukraine, amid the ongoing military-political crisis in the Donbass region since 2014.
The President of Russia has instructed his country’s armed forces to ensure peace in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, where Moscow recognizes its independence and has signed two mutual cooperation agreements.
