Garbage pickup was interrupted on Thursday in Paris and shipping was halted along part of the Rhine River in eastern France in the context of a strike organized by French unions to protest controversial pension reform. Trade unionists also stormed the headquarters of luxury goods group LVMH in Paris, urging the government to shelve the plan to raise the retirement age and instead increase taxes on the wealthy.
