Former FBI Officer and Russian Intelligence Agent Robert Hansen Dies in Prison
The US Department of Justice announced the death of former FBI officer, Soviet and Russian intelligence agent Robert Hansen at the age of 79 in an American prison.

According to a statement from the Department: “On Monday, June 5th … prisoner Robert Hansen was found unconscious at the United States Penitentiary in Florence, Colorado.”

It is noteworthy that the FBI became aware of the death of Hanssen, who was serving a life sentence for espionage and had been in a Florence prison since 2002.
Espionage Charges and Sentencing
Former FBI officer Robert Hansen (born 1944) was arrested in 2001. On charges of transferring secret information to Moscow for many years, including information about electronic intelligence, he also identified several double agents.
In 2002, Hansen was sentenced to 15 life sentences. He served time in the most stringent US federal prison near Florence, Colorado.
