The Mauritanian Government’s Emergency Committee has reported 4 deaths as a result of floods in Mauritania, which are unprecedented rainfall that exceeded all estimates, especially in the eastern region.
The committee said in a statement on Sunday evening that a child died in the town of Rashid, another was killed in the town of Barkel, a third died and was found in the town of Maktaa Lakhjar, and a young man died while trying to cross Wadi Akrikel.
The GKChP confirmed the collapse of dozens of houses in different areas and the death of livestock, and recorded losses on the streets linking the cities due to flooding, especially in the city of Crewe, which led to a complete paralysis of traffic until military engineering intervened to clear the skids and open the road for transport. Hundreds of homeless families have been relocated to safe areas after they have been trained, rehabilitated and provided with basic services.
