FIFA said Cristiano Ronaldo did not score the first goal for Portugal against Uruguay in a match that ended in a 2–0 victory for Portugal, after the technique of the match with the ball showed that Ronaldo did not touch the cross that was thrown by his teammate Bruno Fernandez.
Ronaldo thought he scored his second goal in this World Cup trying to catch up with Bruno Fernandez’s cross and header and he celebrated the goal, but FIFA later awarded the goal to Fernandez, who also scored the second goal in the match from a penalty kick.
And a FIFA statement read: “In the match between Portugal and Uruguay, using the technology associated with the ball used in the match, we can confirm that Cristiano Ronaldo did not touch the ball in the first goal. ”
