Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has set a proposed date for resuming relations with Syria and opened the door for a meeting with President Bashar al-Assad.
Erdogan said today, Thursday, that he may reconsider relations with Syria after the presidential and parliamentary elections to be held in Turkey next June.
Responding to a question about the possibility of meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Erdogan said: “There are no grievances or eternal disagreements in politics.”
These statements were made during the return of Erdogan from Bali after the end of the G20 summit.
Last month, the Turkish president did not rule out the possibility of holding a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Al-Assad.
Regarding this meeting, Erdogan said at a press conference: “Such a meeting is not on the agenda … but I cannot say that it is impossible to meet with Assad.”
He added: “When the time is right, we can also go to meet the President of Syria.”
