Effective Management of Forces During Ceasefire in Sudan
On 10 June 2023, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (SSF) demonstrated effective management of their forces during the ceasefire, resulting in a reduction in the intensity of hostilities throughout Sudan. This enabled the delivery of vital humanitarian aid and some confidence-building measures, as announced by two mediators.
Regret Over Return to Violence
However, the two mediators expressed deep regret at the return of both sides to violence immediately after the end of the ceasefire period. They emphasized that a military solution to the conflict is unacceptable and strongly condemned such actions, calling for their immediate cessation.
Commitment to Negotiations
The mediators reaffirmed that, as part of maintaining their position as the Sudanese people, they are ready to resume negotiations as soon as both parties to the conflict demonstrate their commitment to what they agreed to in the Jeddah Declaration.
Coordination with Partners
The two mediators will coordinate with regional and international partners to stop the fighting and reduce its impact on the region. They also aim to strengthen coordination with the relevant Sudanese civil authorities to ensure their participation in shaping the future of Sudan.
