The National Meteorological Center of the UAE recorded several earthquakes in southern Iran on Friday evening and early Saturday with a degree of 4.1 to 6.3 on the Richter scale, while Iran announced the death of at least three people.
Iranian media estimated the magnitude of the quake at 6.1, while the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported that it was 6.0 on the Richter scale. She said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers. Iran lies at the crossroads of major fault lines and has experienced several devastating earthquakes in recent years.
“Unfortunately, at the moment we have three dead and eight injured,” Mehrdad Hasanzadeh, head of the emergency management department in Hormozgan province on the Gulf Coast, told Iranian television.
Within two hours, the UAE National Meteorological Center confirmed that three earthquakes had been registered.
The center indicated in tweets on its Twitter account that “the earthquake was felt in different regions of the country and had no effect.”
He explained that the stations of the National Seismic Network recorded the last earthquake in southern Iran on Saturday at 03:24 local time of the Emirates with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale.
