Dragon Ball Heroes: Exploring the Multiverse
Dragon Ball Heroes is an arcade card game that has been around since 2010. While players can create their own avatar, the game mainly consists of a series of battles where they must assemble a team of seven characters. What sets Dragon Ball Heroes apart is that it represents a multiverse within the Dragon Ball universe. In this game, fans can witness unique and unlikely scenarios that never happened in the official manga or anime, such as Broly as a Super Saiyan 3, Vegetto as a Super Saiyan 4, Gogeta as a Super Saiyan Blue Evolution, Black Goku as a Super Saiyan 3 Rosé, and Golden Cooler. Until recently, the game was primarily available in Japan, but it made its way to a wider audience in 2019 with the release of Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission on PC and Nintendo Switch.
The Controversial Animation of Super Dragon Ball Heroes Meteor
Alongside the arcade game, a web anime is produced by Toei Animation, showcasing new stories. So far, there have been three series divided into several arcs, each comprising around ten episodes. Initially, the animation followed a traditional 2D style, but with the start of the Meteor Mission series, the Toei teams decided to incorporate 3D and computer-generated images, which received mixed reactions from fans. One particular criticism was the use of 3D models from the arcade machine, resulting in graphics reminiscent of the Playstation 2 era. The animation itself appeared outdated, with stiff movements and odd camera angles. While the quality fell short of expectations, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the latest film in the franchise, showcased much-improved computer-generated imagery.
The Hopes for Dragon Ball: Daima
Despite the disappointing animation in Super Dragon Ball Heroes Meteor, there is still hope for future Dragon Ball projects. The upcoming official and canon Dragon Ball anime, Dragon Ball: Daima, promises to deliver a much better quality 2D animation. In this series, we will follow the adventures of Son Goku and his friends after they are mysteriously transformed into children. While the series synopsis may not please everyone, it’s scheduled to air in Fall 2024, offering fans a chance to experience a superior visual experience compared to recent releases.
