Brazilian-born Spanish striker Diego Costa has returned to the English Premier League from Wolves on a free transfer until the end of the season, the club announced on Monday.
Costa, 33, has been sidelined since leaving Brazil’s Atlético Mineiro in January and Wolves selected him in an attempt to replace Austrian rookie Sasha Kalajdzic, who injured his cruciate ligament in his first match against the team in his third. month against Southampton.
“We are thrilled to welcome Diego Costa to Wolverhampton and his return to the Premier League,” club president Jeff Shea said.
Wolverhampton suffered early in their career this season in attack as they scored just three goals in six matches to finish in fourteenth place with six points and Costa’s contract is therefore an important addition to the squad.
Costa scored 59 goals in 120 games for Chelsea in his first English transfer but had to repeat the level he was at in his first experience with Atlético Madrid between 2010 and 2014 after returning for the last one in 2018 from the London club, which prompted him to leave the capital club again. The Spanish club will join Atlético Mineiro in August 2021.
But his experience with the Brazilian team also failed, leading to the termination of his contract in January.
