DC Comics Announces Alternate Version of “A Death in the Family”
DC Comics made an exciting announcement at New York Comic Con regarding releasing an alternate version of their infamous comic arc, “A Death in the Family.” This highly acclaimed story revolves around Jason Todd, the second Robin, falling into a trap set by the Joker. The Clown Prince of Crime mercilessly beats Jason with a crowbar and leaves him for dead. What makes this storyline unique is that fans had the opportunity to vote for the ending they wanted, and with just a 72-vote difference, it was decided that Jason Todd would die.
The Impact of “A Death in the Family”
The original event left a lasting impact on the Batman universe. The loss of his Robin deeply scarred Batman, marking the first “death” within the Bat Family. However, Jason’s story didn’t end there. He returned as the Red Hood, a vengeful anti-hero who often clashed with Batman and the rest of the Bat-Family. In a recent main comic line arc, Batman took brutal measures to confront and “pacify” his former pupil.
Revisiting the Story in Different Mediums
The tale of “A Death in the Family” has been retold in various forms. It has been featured in multiple animated films, highlighting different versions of events, including Jason’s resurrection and the aftermath. Additionally, the storyline was adapted from the video game “Batman: Arkham Knight,” where Jason assisted Scarecrow in taking over Gotham City to seek revenge on Batman.
