A week after a deadly bomb attack in a mosque, the Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for another one attack on a security convoy in southwest Pakistan early Tuesday. According to a follow-up group at least five soldiers were killed and dozens injured.
Pakistani police said roadside bomb caused the explosion in province of Balochistan, but the claim of responsibility cites Daesh suicide bomber carrying out the attack, according to the US-based SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors activist posts.
The conflicting reports could not be immediately explained.
It was the second attack in less than a week claimed by the regional Daesh affiliate known as Daesh-Khorasan Province. The activist group at son seat in neighboring Afghanistan.
Last week, an ISIS suicide bomber targeted a Shiite mosque during Friday prayers in the North-west city of Peshawar, killing 63 faithful and nearly 200 wounded.
In the Tuesday attack in the neighborhood of Sibi, police also said that 28 people, mostly police officers, were injured. Wazir Murree, a local police official said rescuers carried the dead and injured in hospitals, where an emergency has been declared. He said some of the injured were in critical state.
Local media says the shelling happened near open ground area where an annual cultural event show was detained. Earlier in That day, Pakistani President Arif Alvi attended the festival. The targeted convoy was part of the security deployment surrounding Alvi’s visit. The bombardment took place hours after he had left the area.
Balochistan was the scene of a long-standing insurgency by various Baloch secessionist groups that staged attacks on the security forces and the police to assert their claims for independence for decades.
Although authorities say they have suppressed the insurgency, violence has continued in Province. Local activists and Daesh also have a presence.
According to the claim of responsibility, the assailant was a Pakistani national who “blew up son explosive vest in the middle of a rally of soldiers and police officers,” SITE said.
