Chinese Deputy Ambassador to the UN Geng Shuang said at a meeting of the Security Council that China hopes to conduct an international investigation into the Nord Stream explosion and present its results as soon as possible.
“China hopes that this international investigation will be carried out and the results will be presented as soon as possible. The Security Council is responsible for continuing to consider this incident,” said Geng Shuang.
He indicated that some members of the Council were of the opinion that national investigations should be completed first, and then the idea of an international investigation should be considered.
He stressed that “more than six months have passed since the explosions, and it is necessary to carry out these investigative measures as soon as possible, otherwise it will be more difficult to collect evidence and obtain reliable results for the investigation.”
The UN Security Council rejected a draft resolution prepared by Russia and China to open an international investigation into the Nord Stream explosion.
