In addition to doing certain exercises, football players strive to follow a diet that gives them energy and keeps them fit, which is very important on the field.
In an interview with Informalia newspaper, chef Alberto Mastromatio spoke about one food ingredient he always strives to add to the dishes of the footballers he collaborates with, such as Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
“I make sure to add seaweed to the food of my footballers,” said Mastromatio. “These herbs contain seven times more natural protein than meat, fish and legumes.”
He added: “Algae is also rich in omega-3s, vitamins, antioxidants and carotenoids. I add spirulina and chlorella to all my dishes that I cook for footballers, ”says the Spanish newspaper AS.
Mastromatio continued: “Spirulina is 70 percent rich in protein, vitamins and minerals such as iron, potassium and magnesium. As for chlorella, a freshwater algae, it helps slow down aging, purifies the blood, and protects the body from various types of infections.”
