At the end of the message, Nintendo expressed their tribute and described working with Charles Martinet as an “honor”. They also mentioned that video messages from Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, and Charles Martinet himself will be released soon.
Charles Martinet is no longer the voice actor for Mario
After nearly 30 years of being the voice behind Mario and other characters, Charles Martinet’s career as Mario’s voice actor comes to an end in 2023. Although he will remain associated with the character as Mario Ambassador, we will no longer hear his iconic voice for the mustachioed plumber starting from the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder on Nintendo Switch on October 20.
The announcement was made by Nintendo of America in a statement to IGN. The reasons for this change remain unknown, but it reminds us of the fans’ dissatisfaction a few months ago when Chris Pratt was cast as Mario in the animated film Super Mario Bros. However, Charles Martinet still had a role in the film as the father of Mario and Luigi.
One of Charles Martinet’s last lines were with his role of Papa Mario in the Mario Movie and his last line was:

This final line in the film seems to symbolize a passing of the torch to the next Mario voice actor. The successor’s identity is still unknown, but they will undoubtedly face great pressure. However, they went unnoticed in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder trailer, which may help ease the concerns of fans ahead of the game’s release.
