Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos Franca expressed his opposition to Western sanctions imposed on Russia for its own military operation in Ukraine.
The Brazilian minister described these sanctions as illegal, emphasizing that they violate the interests of countries using and using Russian resources.
In an interview published on the website of the Brazilian Senate, the minister added: “Brazil does not accept the imposition of selective unilateral sanctions. These measures, besides being illegal under international law, are contrary to the immediate interests of some countries, particularly the oil and gas supply to European countries.
Carlos Franca pointed out that these sanctions affect the basic needs for the survival of a large part of the world’s population and that the main danger in them is that their medium-term consequences will affect the developing world, not Russia.
“Meanwhile, developed countries are shielding themselves from the worst of these consequences,” he said.
