Jews believe that the bones of the prophet Yusuf bin Yakub, peace be upon him, were brought from Egypt and buried in this place, but Palestinian archaeologists deny the authenticity of the Israeli story and claim that the age of the tomb does not exceed several centuries and that it belongs to a person from among the righteous parents of God named Joseph, and not the prophet Yusef bin Yakub, peace be upon them.
Israeli affairs scholar Omar Jaara explains to the Sanad news agency that the Jewish narrative is based on Genesis, one of the books of the Old Testament. “Shechem” is not Nablus, which was given by the Romans. its name, and he mentioned that the capture of Joseph’s tomb by the occupiers turned it into a hotbed of tension for over 200,000 people living in the city of Nablus, especially when the settlers stormed the tomb under the pretense of praying.
Since 2007, the settlers have organized an average monthly invasion of Joseph’s tomb in coordination with and under the protection of the occupying forces. Incursions occur before midnight and continue until dawn the next day.
Each incursion is accompanied by violent clashes between hundreds of young people and the occupying forces accompanying the settlers.
