The Malaysian National Palace today announced the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as the tenth Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Anwar Ibrahim is due to be sworn in at 17:00 local time.
National Palace Superintendent Ahmed Fadil Shamsuddin explained that the appointment was reached at a special meeting of Malay kings and sultans at the National Palace this morning.
The extraordinary meeting is being held after no party or alliance in the 15th Malaysian general election won a simple majority (112 seats) in the Malaysian parliament with 222 seats to form a new government.
